Chile Announces US$ 270 Million Development Plan for Rapa Nui
Following up on our earlier post, and according to an article by EMOL, Rodrigo Hinzpeter, the Minister of the Interior, announced today that the Chilean Government will invest US$ 270 million in Easter Island — which is 20 times more than what the Government’s budget has been for the Island over the past 15 years. Minister of Interior to Share Conclusions with Rapa Nui
On Friday, the Minister of the Interior, Rodrigo Hinzpeter, landed on Easter Island to speak with individuals from the four working groups that were created over two months ago. These working groups had been given 60 days to address the issues of: land, immigration, the legal status of the island, and development. It is believed that the Government will present the results of these working groups to the Rapa Nui on Sunday, October 24th. Continue reading
