Government Mismanages Funds for Indigenous Land Purchases
According to a statement made by Senator Eugenio Tuma (PPD), CONADI (National Corporation for Indigenous Development) has badly mismanaged its budget under the direction of Francisco Painepán, and now must return money to the treasury. The mismanagement does not appear to be that CONADI spent too much money, but rather that they weren’t using the money at their disposal. Continue reading
Mapuche Resume Hunger Strike
On Monday, November 22nd, twelve Mapuche prisoners who are on trial in Cañete announced that they are resuming their hunger strike. The Mapuche who have resumed striking are doing so because the Chilean government has not adhered to the promises it made to Mapuche leaders previously–at the close of the previous hunger strike. Victory for Rapa Nui in Hotel Hanga Roa Case
